چکیده
Abstract We consider the following problem: for a given graph G and two integers k d , can we apply fixed operation at most times in order to reduce parameter $$\pi $$ π by least ? show that this problem is NP-hard when independence number vertex deletion or edge contraction, even $$d=1$$ d = 1 restricted chordal graphs. give polynomial time algorithm bipartite graphs fixed. Further, complete complexity dichotomy H -free clique contraction showing $$(C_3+P_1)$$ ( C 3 + P ) . When chromatic number, determine computational of associated cographs multipartite Our results answer several open questions stated Diner et al. Path-Contractions, Edge Deletions and Connectivity Preservation
We study several problems related to graph modification problems under connectivity constraints from the perspective of parameterized complexity: (Weighted) Biconnectivity Deletion, where we are tasked with deleting k edges while preserving biconnectivity in an undirected graph, Vertex-deletion Preserving Strong Connectivity, where we want to maintain strong connectivity of a digraph while dele...
متن کاملDistance-Preserving Graph Contractions
Compression and sparsification algorithms are frequently applied in a preprocessing step before analyzing or optimizing large networks/graphs. In this paper we propose and study a new framework for contracting edges of a graph (merging vertices into super-vertices) with the goal of preserving pairwise distances as accurately as possible. Formally, given an edge-weighted graph, the contraction s...
متن کاملThe Complexity of Graph Contractions
For a fixed pattern graph H, let H-CONTRACTIBILITY denote the problem of decidingwhether a given input graph is contractible to H. We continue a line of research that wasstarted in 1987 by Brouwer & Veldman, and we determine the computational complexity ofH-CONTRACTIBILITY for certain classes of pattern graphs. In particular, we pin-pointthe complexity for all graphs H with five...
متن کاملOn graph contractions and induced minors
The Induced Minor Containment problem takes as input two graphs G and H, and asks whether G has H as an induced minor. We show that this problem is fixed parameter tractable in |VH | if G belongs to any nontrivial minor-closed graph class and H is a planar graph. For a fixed graph H, the H-Contractibility problem is to decide whether a graph can be contracted to H. The computational complexity ...
متن کاملThe Complexity of Degree Anonymization by Graph Contractions
We study the computational complexity of k-anonymizing a given graph by as few graph contractions as possible. A graph is said to be k-anonymous if for every vertex in it, there are at least k − 1 other vertices with exactly the same degree. The general degree anonymization problem is motivated by applications in privacy-preserving data publishing, and was studied to some extent for various gra...
